I’ve also listened to many of AL-K’s interviews and I don’t remember him mentioning Trump at all. Maybe I missed something, but my perception is that a discussion of Trump is totally tangential, if relevant at all, to the anti-antizionist movement. The contemporary hate movement, antizionism, led to the abrogation of Jewish students’ civil rights all over the US (and apparently at McGill) after 10/7 while Biden was president. This injustice was curtailed to a great extent during the current administration, regardless of corrupt behavior in other circumstances.
I have listened to a few of your interviews. I am an elder, raised in Socialist Zionism, who lived in Israel many years, and whose family has contributed much to the growth of Israel. I find myself lucky to be able to enjoy and learn from the poetry of Yehudah Amichai, the songs of Natan Yonatan, the dances of Ohad Naharin, or Karmiel Dance Festival, the conflict resolution classes offered by Neveh Shalom Whahat Al Salaam, and reading commentary from both Palestinian and Jew in Palestine-Israel Journal, combing the Holocaust files at Givat Haviva's research institute, or reading about the latest scientific research from Ben Gurion University.
That said, I am so greatly disappointed that your advocacy for us is linked in any way shape, or manner, to a person who is a pathological liar, and sociopath, Donald Trump, who has destabilized the entire world, and with the help of his pathological oligarchs, and anti semites Peter Theil and Musk, who are dismantling US democracy.
Bibi, like Trump, has created an atmosphere of hate, and chaos, that started years ago, no better example than the atmosphere in Israel around the time of PM Rabin's assassination, to which the cult religious groups and Bibi amplified, with Rabin depicted as HItler.
Antisemitism and all racism, in ALL its forms, increased dramatically in the years since Trump was first elected. Trump regularly engages in daily violet rhetoric on his social media, as well as many in Bibi's gov. Those are facts. And Trump and his regime have enabled Bibi to continue using the military instead of finding a diplomatic solution, not for noble reasons, but just continued grift, as Kushner has done with the payoff he received from Saudi Arabia.
To ignore that Trump is propagating racism, is to have blinders on. To ignore that certain groups of Christians in the US gov. have openly called for the US to return to being a "Christian nation,"
that the very founding of the US, based on a separation of church and state, has now been eroded, by the very man you credit for "quieting" the anti Zionist demos on college campus' is putting another layer of blinders on.
And where, may I add, may I find you in a discussion with someone who disagrees with you, as it seems you only speak to people who already agree with you?
Trump is a psychopath and a racist. He doesn’t care about Israel at all beyond how his actions might benefit himself and his warped vision of reality. That said, I have no idea what that has to do with Adam Louis-Klein and the movement to fight antizionism.
In his interview on "Ask Haviv Anything" Episode 37: The Genocidal claim of genocide with Adam Louis Klein" aside from Haviv making a snarky comment about the left, and Klein laughing, Klein infers that as long as Trump is in office we can rest assured there will be quiet with the demonstrations against the war in Gaza.
I guess I anticipated a more thoughtful discussion from two people who seemed to be analyzing things on a deeper level. In the end there were the same negative labeling of people (the left), and inferences from Klein that Trump has been good for the Jews.
In the US at least, the far right and the progressive left see eye to eye on only one thing - Jew-Hatred; generally expressed by antisemitism on the right and antizionism on the left.
These labels mean nothing, and are primarily used by people without historical knowledge. Your comment is not engagement, it's superficiality.
For example, can I please know who you define as "far right." Do you consider Trump, Hegseth or Rubio "far right? All three have supported anti semites, by either platforming them (Rubio on the State Dept. website, platformed one such anti semite), Hegeth wants a Christian country, and his pastor believes in women as 2nd class citizens, and Trump well, aside from being a criminal, and Russian asset (which is really what we should be discussing), he makes anti semitic comments for the past 12 years.
There have always been racists, in every political movement and party from so called moderates to conservatives.
Your so called "progressive left," helped to secure the young state of Israel, by placing "Socialist" kibbutzim on the front lines. So much for your "Jew Hatred."
And who were among the first to die in a major terrorist attack on Israel? Not the yeshivah students in their cheders, not Bibi in one of 7 homes, spending millions of citizen money in his lavish lifestyle, Israeli Socialists, and progressives on the front line.
I favor engagement and I assure you that I am neither superficial nor ahistorical. However, by nature communication through posts such as this do not generally allow for nuance. The names you mention are indeed consistent with those I would consider far right in character along with others such as Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and many currently serving in the federal, state, and local offices. Except, I consider Trump a psychopath without any true political leaning. He will do or say whatever feeds his psychopathy. At the moment that is extreme right - but it’s not a political conviction as much as a psychotic fever dream designed to maintain the adoration of his populist base.
However, you seem to be fine turning a blind eye to Mamdani, Sanders, Platner, Tlaib, Omar, AOC, Hasan Piker, the soon to be mayor of DC, the soon to be new members of the House from NYC (including Brad Lander), and the DSA platform itself; not to mention the many Progressive Democrats who now are abandoning Israel under pressure.
Just as one can point to right wing politicians and supporters who stand with Jews and Israel one can still find left wing politicians and supporters who stand with Jews and Israel. But unfortunately the extremists on right and left, using their own particular branding, are engaged in increasingly more virulent Jew Hatred. Neither extreme political persuasion should get a pass. All should be called out. Unfortunately, the hollowed out center seems unwilling or unable to grow a spine.
